Internship Day 15!
Internship Day 14!
Why do you enjoy your job?
I've been teaching for 33 years...and its just...like to work with kids, like to see the lightbulb go on.
Why did you decide on 2nd grade?
I didn't, I was in special ed and just decided a change and my principal at the school I was at hand picked Green as a job for me to try and that was the opening that was avalible. I had been teaching special ed for 10 years in San Diego and just decided to look at the general ed perspective. So this was the job opening.
Whats the hardest part about being a second grade teacher?
Preparing for a substitute. Because you can never walk out the door, shut the door and say the works gonna be there tomorrow. You always have to be prepared for a sub or the long hours to prepair the plan especialy in elementary, its minunet by minunet not subject where it would be in high school where you might be teaching multiple classes but you have the same subject, with the same lesson plan. This is munent by minunet for the 7 hours. So...and I cant personaly leave it with a skeleton lesson plan, i've got to make sure that for me im planned or over planned so that if something falls apart its not becuase I wasn't prepared but that just fell apart because.
Would you ever teach a different grade?
Yeah! yeah, I taught special ed which was kindergarden through 8th grade, so yeah I wouldn't mind teaching another grade, but right now this is comfortable and im probley only gonna teach about 5 more years them i'll retire!
Did you ever think you would be a teacher in high school?
No, I wanted to be a dental hygenist!(hahahaha) Too much science!

Internship Day 13!
This picture is a rough draft of what my project will look like. This is what I am hoping the map that the kids make will look like. I am going to take each piece of furniture and cut it out so they can tape it to a big piece of paper. I will give each kid a piece of the map and see if they can all work together as a group to make a map of their classroom.
Here I am cutting out all the pieces for the map. I needed to have 25, 1 for each kid. The project should give them insite on what should go on a map verses what isnt importaint. Most of them got this but still after many people asked the same questions over, they still did not understand it. I finally got them to understand by explaining that it was from a birds-eye point of view and that things on the wall would not be able to go on the map because it would not show up.
This is the final draft of the kids map, they tried to arrange it so that none of the tables would overlap. I had each table come up and put thier pieces down so by the time the last table came to the rug, the entire map had almost been filled. there were a couple of things I had to go over at the end but over all it turned out really well.

Internship Day 12!
This is a picture of the stamp project the 2nd graders do every year, when I was in Mrs. Dreyfuss's class I did one also. This shows that they can all collaborate together as one big class and this is the result of the kids working together. It usually take about half a year to collect the stamps, sort them, and then finally put it all together as one.In a typical work day I work with almost all of the kids throughout the course of the day. Everyone who I help is affected by the help that I give them, I try to help them as best I can and I usually give them the correct advice so they dont need to bother Mrs. Dreyfuss. People who I might not know that are affected by my work might be the parents of the kids or the teachers who will be influenced by the kids, becuase I helped shape them in the early years.
Internship Day 11!
Well I was out for this entire week, so I never got a chance to go in and see my mentor except for 15 mins on Friday during lunch, I am planning to do my interview on tuesday and use my recorder to record it.
Internship Day 10!

This picture shows the bulletin board outside the classroom that usually shows what the class lessons have been about, so this past week the kids have been learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. why he is so famous and why he has a holiday named after him. They were told to each think of a dream that they had, that talked about peace in the world, countries or on the playground. then they were told to think of ideas as to how they could solve this peacefully. Each dove is one child's dream and I put them all together on the bulletin board to show it to the schools superintendent that was coming to see it the next day.
Questions:
- Why do you honestly enjoy your job, what makes you come back everyday?
- Why did you choose 2nd grade?
- What's the hardest part about being a 2nd grade teacher?
- Did you ever have any other jobs besides being a teacher?
- What made you move to San Diego?

Internship Day 8!
Choice A: What characteristics and qualities do you see in the people at your internship that you'd like to develop in yourself? Some of these qualities and characteristics could be creativity, empathy, risk-taking, ambitiousness, honesty, fairness, and so on. There are so many qualities and characteristics that people could have, so look around and think of a few good ones that you see in the people you work with.
My mentor and the other teachers at Green all seem to have similar qualities, they are all passionate about their kids and work, they have to be understanding about small problems, and most of them have guardian instincts that natural parents have. If I were to become a teacher I would like to have these qualities among many more that teachers have, if not though I do need to have these qualities as I continue my internship and go on to have children of my own.

Organization/Company Objectives & Benefits: It will give Mrs. Dreyfuss a chance to take a break and let me get a good experience.
Schedule: For the past 2 1/2 weeks I have been preparing my lesson plan and planning everything out that I am going to do. Starting Monday(25) I will be starting the lesson and project, the week following that I will be doing a hour lesson for each day and we will continue to map the class and work on map related things.
Academic Skills: To be able to teach a class about mapping and be able to read maps myself.

This past week was so much fun! I had so many opportunities I wouldn't have done if I didn't have to do internship, I have been able to sit in and watch and be a part of how this entire classroom runs and works. I have been able to work with kids separately and as a group. I also got to design and create the board outside their classroom that the supervisor commented on!! there was a kid who was testing me but I pulled him straight back into line, I did have to become "Scary Miss Kim" as they put it but it kept him from getting in even more trouble with Mrs. Dreyfuss. I think over all my first full week was fun and a amazing experience and I am seriously considering teaching as a profession.

Internship Day 1!
Today I woke up at 6:20 to be at Green Elementary by 7:30. I met Mrs. Dreyfuss and said the pledge of allegiance and the peace pledge. we went inside and for the first couple of hours of class I sat in the back and was looking through the science and geography lessons for this month. After recces we started math and I walked around and helped, corrected and graded any ones work. After that we went right into geography, they needed to draw a map so I helped a couple tables with that at a time. Soon after that school was out since it was a half day, they left at 11.30. Although it was only 4 hours every Wednesday, I do 7 every other day so that will account for my approx 6 hours everyday.
Questions:
1. Have some teachers been laid off sence the recession? NOT AT OUR SCHOOL.
2. Have the number of students in your class fluctuated? YES. UP FROM 20 TO 24.
3. Has your pay been cut at all? NO
